Amman-Street View and Life

Almost everyday of this month,  I walk through Jordan University and take a bus at its main gate to Paris Square, which is near the downtown of Amman. Some interesting scenes on the way are extremely attracting and seduce me to push the button.

Ramadan-Friday Worship

During the beginning of holy Ramadan, I visited a friend who lives at the neighborhood of Jabal Amman. We met at the downtown and saw the police blocking the street in front of the King Hussein Mosque. Hundreds of men gathered here to do their Friday worship. They have to fast and endure the summer heat.

Snow in Amman

The weather in this week has been dramatic and stormy. It rained three days without a break and for two days sleet and snow came after. Now everywhere in Amman is covered with at least one-foot-deep snow. This is the first time that I saw so much rain and snow in the Middle East since I came to this regime three years ago. It's quite unusual.

Jordan University-Election

A student union election took place at Jordan University after Christmas. Each department selected its representives for the union, so there were numerous activities of the election campaign going on for two weeks. Pictures of candidates were posted on every corner of the campus.

Jordan University-Campus

I study Arabic at the language center of Jordan University. During the fall semester, 2012, the university held several events to celebrate its 50th anniversary, including the international festival, academic conferences and a visit of the king. The campus is full of the energy and dynamic.

Citadel in Amman

The Citadel sits on the hill of Amman downtown. My housemate and I took a bus from Jordan University to the downtown and then walked up long steep stairs to the top of hillside to reach the Citadel. Because of a nice weather, we really enjoyed not only the overviews of the city and also the exploration of this historical ruins, where there are Umayyad palace, Byzantine basilica and pillars of the Temple of Hercules.

Amman-Rainbow Street

Rainbow Street is in the historic area of Jabal Amman, near the downtown Amman. It's an area filled with modern restaurants and cafes. Especially at night, local young people and foreigners like to hang around here for enjoying its artistic and less-conservative atmosphere.

Amman-People

People in Amman are friendly. They are mixing with immigrates from the neighboring countries. They are proud of their heritage and their country being peaceful and safe.

From Damascus to Amman

Due to the safety reason, I said good-bye to Damascus and moved to Amman, Jordan, a month ago with my lovely cat, Faris. We try to live in places with a garden, so that Faris can roam around outside the house, and I am able to enjoy some greens. Even though the garden at my current residence is bigger and prettier, I really miss the simple and easy life in Syria. Every time when I watch the news about the violent killings there, sadness always catches me.
