Village Folks

I just participated in a charity event for distributing food to the needed people in a small village near the border with Syria. It's nice to get out of Amman to meet some village folks and to view the vast landscape of the desert, where they lead a simple and humble life.

Amman-Street View and Life

Almost everyday of this month,  I walk through Jordan University and take a bus at its main gate to Paris Square, which is near the downtown of Amman. Some interesting scenes on the way are extremely attracting and seduce me to push the button.

Ramadan-Friday Worship

During the beginning of holy Ramadan, I visited a friend who lives at the neighborhood of Jabal Amman. We met at the downtown and saw the police blocking the street in front of the King Hussein Mosque. Hundreds of men gathered here to do their Friday worship. They have to fast and endure the summer heat.

St. George's Church in Madaba

Madaba (مادبا) is near Dead Sea and famous for byzantine-era mosaics. This small city has one of the largest Christian population in Jordan. The must-visit place is the 19th-century Greek Orthodox St. George Church, where on the floor there is the mosaic map of the biblical sites from Egypt to Palestine. Because of it, the church is always full of visitors and believers.

Dead Sea

Dead sea is one of the most popular and famous places to visit in Jordan. It's the world's saltiest lake, which is 8.6 times saltier than the ocean, so no animal is able to survive in it. The Dead Sea has a high density, which makes swimmers and non-swimmers easily floating on it.

Being Jordan for 10 months, I didn't visit this spot until last weekend. Because of some old injury on the leg, I didn't swim but enjoy the nice weather and the beauty of the water. Its surface and shores are 423 meters below sea level, so it's a lot of fun to set the feet on the earth's lowest elevation on land. 

Umm Qais

Umm Qais (أم  قيس) is located at the far northeast corner of Jordan and is famous for the spectacular views that overlook the Golan Heights in Syria, Lake Tiberias in Israel and Palestinian Territories. The spring is the wonderful season to visit this ancient ruins, Roman City and Ottoman village. The wild flowers were blooming everywhere between the ruin stones. The nice weather and beautiful scenes attracted quite a lot of visitors.

Dana Nature Reserve

The Dana Nature Reserve (محمية دانا الطبيعية) is one of the most impressive nature reserves in Jordan. It's a beautiful area to do hiking and camping. I visited this place in a tour arranged by Jordan University's language center, which provides foreign students weekly tours around Jordan. I always skip attending any one of tours until this time. The views were spectacular, and the greens and flowers were blooming and flourishing everywhere in the valley during the lovely spring.
